Overview

This guide walks you through installing and securing cPanel on a production Linux server. Each step includes commands for Ubuntu/Debian and AlmaLinux/RHEL families.

Prerequisites

  • Root or sudo access via SSH
  • A registered domain (optional but recommended)
  • Updated system packages

Installation Steps

1. Update the system

sudo dnf update -y # AlmaLinux/RHEL
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y # Debian/Ubuntu

2. Install cPanel

Follow vendor documentation for your distribution. Enable and start the service:

sudo systemctl enable --now nginx

3. Configure firewall

sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=http
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=https
sudo firewall-cmd --reload

4. Verify

Open the server IP or domain in a browser and confirm a successful response.

Security Recommendations

  • Keep packages updated and monitor logs daily.
  • Use SSH keys instead of password authentication.
  • Enable automatic security updates where possible.
